The UPIKE Mount Laurel Competition serves as the University of Pikeville’s official preparatory selection for the prestigious Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival. Rooted in a tradition that has honored college women in Eastern Kentucky since 1931, this campus competition mirrors the structure and spirit of the main festival to ensure UPIKE’s representative is fully prepared for the statewide stage.

Sign-ups for the UPIKE Mount Laurel Competition will be open from January 19 through February 4.

Each May, representatives from colleges and universities across the Commonwealth gather at Laurel Cove, a natural amphitheater in Pine Mountain State Resort Park, where grace, poise, and achievement are celebrated. Through the UPIKE competition, participants gain firsthand experience with the expectations, traditions, and honor associated with the festival—culminating in the opportunity to represent UPIKE in Pineville and ceremonially curtsey to the governor while vying for the coveted title of Queen, crowned with a handcrafted mountain laurel crown.

To ensure all participants feel confident and prepared, the UPIKE Career Closet will be available to provide professional and formal attire for the competition.

The UPIKE Mount Laurel Competition proudly highlights the accomplishments, leadership, and spirit of UPIKE women while continuing a cherished Eastern Kentucky tradition.
